What is the right age for an orthodontic check-up? The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that age 7 is the ideal time for screening by an orthodontist. A timely screening may lead to very significant treatment benefits. Or, it may indicate that treatment is not necessary. Either way, screening can provide information to relieve parents’ concern that even though developing permanent teeth may be temporarily undesirable; the development pattern may be within normal limits. Will braces hurt? No, braces will not hurt. You will not feel any pain as the braces are being attached to your teeth. Once you get your braces on, you may feel some soreness later in the day. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as Tylenol are strong enough to ease this soreness. This discomfort may last up to a week. After this period of time, you will quickly adjust to the braces. You will only feel this discomfort again when your braces are periodically tightened. We will also provide you with protective non-toxic wax to use on specific areas bothering you the most. You will be given all the necessary instructions in greater detail at your visit. How long will I have braces on? Treatment usually takes about 12 to 30 months, depending on the complexity of the orthodontic needs. At your first visit, Dr. Bayrakdarian will tell you the approximate length of treatment necessary for your specific diagnosis. Following instructions given by your orthodontic team and keeping your teeth clean and healthy are also factors that will help keep you on your estimated timetable. We hope to accommodate your needs most of the time, but would need your cooperation as we work together to improve your smile. How much will treatment cost? The cost of orthodontic treatment depends on the length of time that treatment is required, and the complexity of your case. Remember that we offer low monthly payment plans. We also accept CareCredit, which offers an interest-free payment plan, as well as most credit cards. We are members of many insurance plans, which often cover a portion of your orthodontic treatment.
