Because we would like you to be informed before your first visit, or Treatment Consultation, we have provided a step-by-step guide for the first time we meet you. Top of Page Why is your first visit so important? 1. TIMING. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic check-up no later than age 7. If this seems young to you, keep in mind that even if you think your child may need an early check-up, it does not necessarily mean that he or she will need braces right away. If a problem is detected at this age, the orthodontist will most likely place your child on a recall schedule to keep watch as permanent teeth come in and the jaw and face continue to grow. Each person has an ideal window of time to begin orthodontic treatment for his or her best possible results. As a trained orthodontist, Dr. Bayrakdarian has the expertise to determine when the time is right. By bringing your child in sooner, rather than later, your mind will be at ease knowing that you have a professional who is monitoring your son or daughter’s future orthodontic needs. 2. CHOOSING THE RIGHT ORTHODONTIST IS A PERSONAL DECISION. How do you know if an orthodontist is right for you? We know your time is valuable, so we want you to make the most of your time with us at your first visit. After all, from the day you step into our office, you will be forming a lasting friendship with Dr. Bayrakdarian and the entire Unique Orthodontics team. Top of Page Step-By-Step Guide to Your First Visit Your experience starts with a phone call. At Unique Orthodontics, we will always call you the day before your first appointment to help prepare you for your visit. We will also send you a welcome packet to give you an introduction to our office with forms to help us get to know you better. Your first visit, or the ‘Treatment Consultation’, will take approximately thirty minutes to one hour. During this visit, you will have plenty of time to have all your questions answered by the Treatment Coordinator, who will guide you throughout your visit with us, as well as by Dr. Bayrakdarian. Remember, there is no charge for this visit. You will meet our Treatment Coordinator. Once your health history information is complete, our Treatment Coordinator will promptly come out to the reception area to greet you. She will already have an idea of why you have come to our office today, based on our brief conversation when you first called to set up an appointment. Now that she is meeting you in person, it will be a chance for her to gain a better understanding of how you would like to benefit from braces. Records Before Your Exam. Sometimes while you are still filling out paperwork in our reception area, one of our assistants may call you back to the clinic area to take X-rays. These are often necessary to help Dr. Bayrakdarian gain a better clinical understanding of you teeth. At this time, you will be escorted back to the reception area until you are ready to be seen in the consultation room. Again, there is no fee. The Treatment Coordinator will take you on a tour of Unique Orthodontics. This is a great opportunity to see where you will be spending your time at each visit. She will take you to our digital X-ray room, and will give you a brief explanation and demonstration of how it functions, and the purpose of taking records. Take note of our chair-side computer screens that give the orthodontist and staff instant access to your orthodontic progress chart, digital photos and X-rays. You will also see the team and Dr. Bayrakdarian at work in the clinic area, as well as a glimpse of our current patients, who have already started on their way to a beautiful smile! You and the Treatment Coordinator will sit down together in the private Consultation Room. This is your opportunity to start asking as many questions as you’d like. The Treatment Coordinator wants to get to know you, and hopefully you will get to know about us as well. This is also where she will begin listening to you and understanding your orthodontic needs. If you feel you’d like to be more educated on braces, we have a wonderful 8-minute video that covers the basics of orthodontic treatment. We have visual aids with actual brackets for you to touch and play with. We also have samples of how both clear and stainless steel braces will look once they are on your teeth. Feel free to ask your Treatment Coordinator anything you would like to know about braces, and she would be happy to help. Dr. Bayrakdarian will meet with you for a comprehensive oral exam. Don’t worry, it’s painless! This is just a physical exam where Dr. Bayrakdarian will examine your teeth and jaw structure. The Treatment Coordinator will have already explained your main concerns to Dr. Bayrakdarian, but this will be your opportunity to get a more clinical understanding of your teeth. Again, feel free to ask questions! Sometimes, but not always, records may be necessary for Dr. Bayrakdarian to get a better understanding of your teeth-especially if baby teeth are still present. At no cost to you, we will take digital X-rays for Dr. Bayrakdarian to study. Next, using the examination results, Dr. Bayrakdarian will describe to you your clinical diagnosis and then explain your best treatment options and his recommendations. Our Mulitmedia Case Presentation Technology will give you an animated visual of your unique type of case, before and after treatment. This is a tool that allows Dr. Bayrakdarian to share with you a vision of your new smile. The Treatment Coordinator will help you outline a Payment Plan that is right for you. If you have an idea of what would be affordable to you, please discuss it with the Treatment Coordinator. If you would like, you will have the opportunity to use our payment calculator to work out monthly payments that would fit your budget. Our low minimum down payment and flexible interest-free financing options make treatment affordable to everyone. If you have insurance that covers orthodontic treatment, we will deduct the amount of coverage from your overall treatment fee, and will gladly take care of insurance claims submission on your behalf. That is why there is no charge for the initial consultation, even if diagnostic records are necessary. We have very flexible payment plans, including our own in-house financing option. We also accept most credit cards, and you have the option of applying for CareCredit, which gives you credit specifically for healthcare or orthodontic needs. CareCredit offers both an interest-free payment plan and an extended plan that significantly lowers your monthly payments. All payment options will be discussed with you at your first consultation visit. Insurance Unique Orthodontics accepts most insurance plans. If you provide us with your insurance plan information before you come in for your consultation, we will call your insurance company to find out your specific benefits. The amount that your insurance covers will be deducted from the total treatment fee that is discussed at your first consultation visit.
